It is used in preserving food, manufacture of flux, oxygen-sensitive applications such as metal production, glasses, enamels, fabrics and plastics. It is also used in oil refining, manufacture of pharmaceuticals, manufacture phosphors for fluorescent electric lights, and floor coverings.
