Description
Starosporin is used to study the involvement of protein kinases in signal transduction pathways. It arrests normal cells in the G1 checkpoint and is a potent inhibitor of Protein kinase C and other protein kinases in vitro and in cultured cells. It is an inducer of apoptosis in many mammalian cell types.
- Potent inhibitor of phospolipid/calcium dependent and cyclic nucleotide dependent protein kinases
- Useful as a tool for studies on protein phosphorylation in the regulation of cellular functions
- Inhibits the upregulation of VEGF expression in tumor cells
- Partially reverses MDR, sensitizing cells with MDR phenotype to cytotoxic agents
- Inhibits Pgp phosphorylation (functional significance of Pgp phosphorylation is ill defined)
