At temperatures above 260°C (500°F), a few chemicals at high concentration have been reported reactive to PTFE. These include 80% NaOH or KOH, metal hydrides (such as boranes), aluminum chloride, ammonia and certain amines and imines. Also, slow oxidative attack by 70% nitric acid under pressure at 250°C (480°F) has been observed. Special testing is required when extremes of reducing or oxidizing conditions are approached.
