Used as a marker of liver disease due to the release of GPT into the blood following liver cell necrosis

A transaminase enzyme, glutamic pyruvic transaminase catalyzes the transfer of an amino group from alanine to α-ketoglutarate, the products of this reversible transamination reaction being pyruvate and glutamate.

  • Presentation: Off-white powder
  • Foreign Activity: GLDH, GOT, LDH, MDH: ≤0.01%
  • Specific Activity: ∽80u/mg protein
  • Unit Definition: One unit will cause the transamination of 1.0μmole of L-alanine per minute at pH 7.5 and 25°C
  • Solubility: At 5mg/mL in 0.05M potassium phosphate pH 7.5, giving a clear, pale-green solution; also soluble in distilled water or dilute buffer
