A thymidine analog used in cell proliferation studies

BrdU in culture is incorporated into the DNA during DNA synthesis. Cellular incorporation of BrdU can be detected by anti-BrdU specific antibodies following membrane permeabilization through flow cytometry or immunohistochemistry.
