Description
Isolate salmonellae, other than Salmonella typhi from feces, pathological material, and food with this selective medium.
Isolate salmonellae, other than Salmonella typhi with selective Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Brilliant Green Agar. Brilliant Green Agar was first described as a selective isolation medium for Salmonella species by Kristensen et al.1 Kauffmann2 modified their formula to give a highly selective plating medium for the isolation and identification of salmonellae from feces and other pathological material, and from food and dairy products.
Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract. Salmonella bacteria typically live in animal and human intestines and are shed through feces. Humans become infected most frequently through contaminated water or food.
Use Brilliant Green Agar for isolation of salmonellae other than Salmonella typhi.
- Selective: brilliant green in the medium makes this medium inhibits the growth of non-target organisms.
- Easy-to-read: phenol red in the medium serves as an acid base indicator giving yellow colour to lactose and sucrose fermenting bacteria.
- Corresponds to the medium recommended by the APHA3,4.
