Description
Description: The A1 monoclonal antibody reacts with human IFN-beta. The A1 antibody is a neutralizing antibody. IFN-beta is classified as a type I IFN which is a group of structurally and functionally related proteins demonstrating anti-viral, anti-parasitic, and anti-proliferative activities. Applications Reported: The A1 antibody has been reported for use in cytokine neutralization. Applications Tested: The Functional Grade Purified A1 antibody has been tested in bioassay for neutralization of IFN-beta bioactivity. The A1 antibody at 3-6 μg/mL has been found to inhibit by 50% the biological effects of 50 pg/mL human IFN-beta (ND50), in an EMCV assay of A549 cell protection. Detailed information and protocols about cytokine bioassays and in vitro cytokine neutralization using antibodies can be found in the Best Protocols™ section. Storage and handling: Use in a sterile environment. Filtration: 0.2 μm post-manufacturing filtered. Purity: Greater than 90%, as determined by SDS-PAGE. Endotoxin Level: Less than 0.001 ng/μg antibody, as determined by LAL assay. Aggregation: Less than 10%, as determined by HPLC.
Type I Interferons (IFN-alpha/beta) are produced primarily in response to viral infection by Natural IFN-producing cells (IPCs) as part of the host immune response. IFNs can also inhibit the development of tumors. IFN-beta binding results in the activation of the tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2, phosphorylation of members of the STAT family of transcription factors, and the transcription and expression of the immune response genes. More recently, several members of the toll-like receptor (TLR) family were found to stimulate the production IFN-beta. IFN-beta is currently used clinically for treatment of tumors, infections and multiple sclerosis.Specifications
